Sofie Brandt is a photographer from Hartford, CT (but currently is a student at Portland State University in Portland, OR.
She is passionate about giving voice to people from different cultures and telling stories from tender moments. Growing up, family has always been an important aspect of her life and she hopes to share stories of family and connection through her work. She has a passion for telling stories by connecting to others through each others vulnerabilities. She believes that each and every person has a story that is worth being told.
Sofie studied documentary photojournalism her senior year of high school. She completed a multi-media documentary project on youth homelessness in central Connecticut. Before her work at PSU, she learned about photojournalism during a summer workshop with The School of The New York Times and assisting CT-based photojournalism Monica Jorge. During a 2019 weeklong internship with The New York Times, she shadowed photojournalist Michelle Agins and photo editor Stephen Reiss.
